Ambiance Congo: December 4, 2011

Welcome to Ambiance Congo!
Thanks to violent winds and torrential rain, electrical power and internet service have been unavailable to me for a few days. All has been restored now so here is the post for last week's program.
The show this time starts off with a track from Reddy Amisi's LIKELEMBA but is otherwise is all older music. Your requests add to the quality of the selections and I want to thank everyone who contributed.
I'd also like to thank moos at Global Grooves for his rip of the Bella-Bella track.
Local feedback for the program was very good and I'd love to hear from you as well.
Here are some album covers.
The program is available for download here:
This link will be available for two weeks, but the show may also be found in the Ambiance Congo Audio Archives.
Enjoy!

  1. Great show Sir. Many thanks for the Reddy Amisi and Santa Nyanga songs. The program's sound quality is positively better than before. Apurva from Pune, India.

  2. Most enjoyable, particularly the Freres Soki and Wella Wella tracks. Can't fault the whole playlist, really.
I have a question about two songs you played many many moons ago by Djoboke & Le Tabou National. I see they were both from the same LP & I'm intrigued to know who these guys were and if they had any other releases or went on to other bands. If they were never heard of again then at least they left behind a couple of absolutely superb songs. Good stuff!

  3. Thank you David N. This is a great list of different types of congolese music. You got the song Youyou by Bella Bella. That song is a great song. Try to put the Youyou by Ndombe. I will post the song Youyou soon. Thanks as always.

  4. Dave, there was a good discussion, led up by Martin Sinnock, on Tabou National a while back at this forum:

    Worthwhile reading!
Cheers and thanks. I have a few singles of Le Tabou National. Would you like to hear one?

Thanks for your request and for the comment. I have the OK Jazz version of Youyou by Opetum but I prefer the Bella-Bella song. Rare that I would choose something over OK Jazz, but there you have it. There are many, mmany songs with that title -or with "Youyou" as part of the tile from OK Jazz to Bella-Bella to Didi Raphael Louvila and beyond. One time I considered doing a whole program of "Youyou" but decided against it.

  6. Thanks for the thread on Le Tabou National - I think I understand it, although my head hurts a bit now! Sounds like their real history is lost in the mists of time. Not to worry, if you have some more of their singles then I'd certainly like to hear them. Cheers.

  7. Hahahaha!
A lot of information is either lost or difficult to sort out.
I'll play a nice single called LOKUA for you this Sunday, Dave. I think you'll like it!
